"Remember When" Moments in Ministry

Over the last couple of years in ministry I have had a few people come up to me and share their “remember when” moments in ministry. We have had some good laughs over those “remember when” moments:

  • Remember when you took us to the game,

  • Remember when we threw a fire cracker into a outhouse?

  • Remember when you did doughnuts in the church van (don’t recommend this),

  • Remember when we did the “impossible sit-up” (don’t recommend this either),

  • Remember when…

And better yet, I also have had “remember when” conversations like:

  • Remember when you bought me a gym membership so we can talk about faith,

  • Remember when you told me to stop sleeping around with everyone,

  • Remember when you believed in me and spoke life into me,

  • Remember when we came over to your house and ate all your food,

  • Remember when…

And, it is the “remember when”’s where REAL ministry happens. Interesting enough, most people don’t remember my messages, programs, or events. BUT, they do remember moments, conversations, relationships, friendships, mission.

Do you have “remember when’s”?

Stick it out in ministry, friend. WHY? Because the “remember when” moments in ministry will follow. Don’t give up, don’t lighten up. Press on. Keep plodding.

AND if you are needing mentoring along the way, why NOT check out what we offer with DUCO. It has changed dozens of leaders towards resiliency, grit, and heart.
