Breaking Christian Stereotypes

I dont know about you but SOMETIMES I fall into some "Christian" stereotypes when people hear I work in a local church. Some of these stereotypes are:

• You better be good around the pastor,
• Pastors are boring,
• Pastors are irrelevant,
• Pastors are lazy,
• Pastors read a dusty old book, and
• Christians are lame.

In fact, this week at soccer practice a parent asked me what I did for work. When I told him I worked in a local church the conversation became awkward like a JR High dance. YET, we still had a good talk about life, soccer, and kids.

With that said ONE of my life goals is to break the seemingly Christian stereotypes that are out there. As a Pastor:

• I love hanging out with good friends over a good plate of wings at the local pub,
• I love to play sports,
• I go to the gym,
• I love to travel,
• I love to help people, AND
• I love God with everything I am

SIMPLY put, I am a REAL person with REAL life situations and believe in a REAL God. I encourage you NOT to shrink to the Christian stereotypes culture puts on you and I BUT to step up and show who Jesus really is.

Jesus puts it this way...

Here's another way to put it: You're here to be a light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.... keep open house; be generous with your lives. by opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
